May's drop bring us in a little bit of a different direction as it features the fleeces of "Nola & Nora", two Shetland Sheep from Willow Wool Farm in North Carolina that Tabbethia shears for every season.
Last year Tabbethia had a mill-spun yarn made from the fleeces of "Nola & Nora" that is highlighted in our Farm to Yarn Collection. In each of May's LIYF of Shearing kits we will be pairing a mini skein of the mill-spun yarn alongside John's hand-spun yarn as a really wonderful way to highlight the differences of mill-spun versus hand-spun yarn of the same animal contributor.
Keeping with up with the theme of comparing the different ways in which yarns are spun you will also receive a commercially-spun skein of superwash merino hand-dyed by Laura Lough of The Unique Sheep, daughter of Jan Bullins (owner of Willow Wool Farm, the home of Nola & Nora). Each hand-dyed skein is one of kind and the gradient shades vary so you will be pleasantly surprised with the mystery color you receive.
Also included in your kit you will receive a handmade Moravian Beeswax candle hand-crafted by Jan Bullins, Jan's husband Spence is the beekeper. The small, lighted candles distributed to Moravians in America were made from beeswax. Beeswax is considered the purest of all animal or vegetable waxes.
